More than 300 students and research scholars from various colleges participated in the one-day national level workshop on ‘Different dimensions and strategies in public speaking,’ held at the Department of English of the Rathinam College of Arts and Science, here on Wednesday.

According to the organizers, the students were introduced to various aspects of public speaking and effective measures to deal with stress, and to give an error-free operation.

Inaugurating the workshop, V. Ganeshan, the former Vice Chancellor of the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), stressed upon the importance of communication and the employability through English. Listing out a few traits that a good speaker ought to possess, he said that such qualities help public speakers interact more with the audience without missing out on communicating.

“We should always have a connection with the audience in order to communicate what we want to say. If the connection is interrupted at any point, we cannot succeed in communicating what we want,” he said.

He further added that one should be bold and clear in what he speaks in order to be a successful public speaker.
