The Coimbatore City Corporation, along with various organisations, today launched a special application, to help in collaborative service in various fields. Named Social Capital, the application is to pool in representatives from the service sector, industries, corporate houses, NGOs, and volunteers, with the Corporation.

Padmanaban Gopalan, one of the organisers of the event, said that some of the primary objectives of the initiative was to garner immediate and productive help in food management, education, blood donation, city-based social newsfeed, crowd-funding for developments in the city, and volunteering for all causes.

“As many as 95 administrative organisations have registered with us so far. We are first attempting to strengthen the administrative side, where the service sector is involved. We will later concentrate on the volunteers,” he said.

He explained that the application will alert all the volunteers within a five km area, so that help arrives in time. Specific meetings will be held in the coming days to counter problems in each sector, pertaining to the application, he said.

Launching the application, Corporation Commissioner K. Vijaya Karthikeyan informed that the app was initiated to bring people from all walks of life under one roof, so that service becomes easy.
