D Vinod Shivappa was elected president of the United Planters Association of Southern India (UPASI) for the year 2016-17.

T Jayaram was elected as vice president of the association for a one-year term at its annual general meeting held on September 24 in Coonoor, in nearby Nilgiris district.

Sivappa was on the Committees of Codagu Planters’ Association and was chairman of the Karnataka Planters’ Association.

Jayaram has occupied various positions, such as chairman of the Nilgiri Planters’ Association and Planters’ Association of Tamil Nadu, and also served on the UPASI executive committee for the past 20 years, a UPASI release said today.
