Apparently not everyone was relaxing on a Saturday night; in fact, a Swachh Bharat team, various NGOs, police personnel and corporation workers were working very hard on a night cleanup drive that started at 9 pm at the Ukkadum, Gandhipuram and Singanallur town bus stands.

Volunteers cleaned up the walls, floors and platforms of the bus stands.

Corporation Commissioner K Vijayakarthikeyan visited the Ukkadum bus stand at around 10pm, inspected the area and appreciated the efforts of the volunteers.

Swachh Bharat ambassador KV Thirumal said, “The area was washed and cleaned. Shopkeepers were given awareness on the no plastic bag initiative and were instructed to keep the bus stand clean by telling people who come to their shop to drop litter only in dustbins.”
