Following the recent suicides by students, the president of the All India Students Federation, Syed Waliullah Qadri claimed that there was no security in the college campuses in Tamil Nadu.

Qadri, who had come to Coimbatore to participate in the state committee meeting, told reporters that seven students, including two Dalits, have committed suicide in the last three months in different colleges in Tamil Nadu.

“Students in Tamil Nadu colleges are facing similar kinds of problems that Hyderabad University scholar Rohit Vemula had faced. And, alleging that in most self-financing colleges, private security guards and goons were monitoring the activities of the students, Qadri said that there was no security to the students.

Blaming the college administration for most of the problems, Qadri said that the AISF will continue to fight against these injustices meted out to Dalit students. He also demanded that the Government rein in the colleges which were increasing the fee-structure at their whims and fancies.
