The 92 YO Mu Karunanidhi, the patriarch of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), will mark the beginning of the party’s election campaign with a whirlwind 20-day-long tour starting from April 23, covering Tamil Nadu and Pudhucherry.

Karunanidhi will run his campaign from a state-of-the-art caravan-like vehicle, equipped with special hydraulic lift imported from Germany, satellite TV, the internet, and just about all the facilities that one would normally find in luxury hotels.

On April 23, he will meet the voters and address public meetings in Chennai, and will then proceed to Cuddalore district. Karunanidhi will file his nominations from Tiruvavur constituency at Tanjavur district, the next day. It was from Thiruvarur that he won the 2011 assembly polls.

He will tour Pudhucherry after visiting Trichy, Perambalur, Villupuram, and Tirunelveli. He will end his campaign on May 14 at Tiruvarur. Karunanidhi’s son and DMK’s Treasurer, M.K Stalin, has already started door-to-door canvassing.

In addition to the leaders, the celebrity campaigners, including film and TV stars, will also be touring the state.
