Sugar level reading will soon become painless with scientists on the verge of developing a glucowatch which gives the correct blood sugar reading from the sweat of a person.

Trials have been on for the last few months. Once successful, the glucowatch, currently being tested in the USA and Japan, will be available in the commercial market soon, a leading city diabetologist, Dr. R. Balamurugan said.

Talking to reporters on the sideline of CUPID-2016, a national conference on diabetes, here in Coimbatore last night, Balamurugan sad that the system will have a sensor for the sweat, and the watch will give the reading, thus ending the fear of injecting insulin.

Though many companies in the western countries had attempted to come out with oral insulin, it was not that successful. Of late, two pharma-companies have taken up the task of developing one. Clinical trial was going on, he said.

On the prevalence of diabetes in the country, Balamurugan said that it was growing by five to 10 percent in India, and is expected to double from the present 65 million by 2030.
