Kottayam: Kerala’s harvest festival appeared to have benefitted the beverages department as it was record sales of liquor on September 2.
The sales went up 100 per cent to reach a whopping Rs 80.95 crore. Last year on Onam day, liquor sales fetched a mere Rab 40 crore.
On Onam eve, sales increased by 38 per cent compared to last year. It reached Rs 71.1 crore from Rs 51.51 crore.
Sales during the 10 day Onam season was Rs 440.6 crore against Rs 411.14 crore which is an increase of 7.16 per cent.Maximum sales of Rs 87 lakh was recorded at Irinjalakkuda in Thrissur.
