One constituency exclusively for women

The district administration is taking efforts to reserve one assembly constituency exclusively for women in the coming polls.
As nearly 70 per cent of the election officials are women, it would be easy to depute them to the selected constituency, where only women candidates will have to contest, official sources said.
The administration is also taking efforts to convince the political parties in this regard, since the booth agents should also be women, they said.
Some political parties had rejected the suggestion earlier.
The election department has shortlisted Coimbatore North and Pollachi constituencies for the proposal, the sources said.
