One year old calf and 15 YO female elephant found dead in different places

Coimbatore: A one and half year old elephant calf was found dead in Narasipuram on the outskirts today.

The carcass of the male calf, lying in slush was noticed by forest department officials, who were on morning rounds in Boluvampatti Range, police said.

Veterinarians performed post mortem and buried the calf there itself.

Meanwhile, a 15-year old female elephant died, after it slid down from a height in Gudalur in Nilgiris District, they said.

The elephant, which strayed into the town last night, damaged a wall and slid down to some 30 feet below resulting in injuries.

Forest officials, who received information this morning rushed to the spot but their efforts to revive it remained futile.
