The Union Environment and Forest Minister, Prakash Javadekar, today said each and every policy of the NDA Government were tailor made for creating more jobs.
Addressing a function to highlight the achievements of the two-year Modi Government, the Minister said be it road, rail, airport or irrigation, every policy centred around generating employment opportunities for the youth.
Stating that during the previous two UPA governments, only seven kilometre road was laid a day, it was 22km road stretch now. “Soon 30 km road will be laid a day,” the Minister said.
Modernisation of ports under the Sagarmala scheme and other irrigation projects had opened up jobs for youths. “Under the skill development programme, 40 lakh skilled youth were provided jobs, which is one of the biggest achievements of the NDA government.”
On various welfare schemes for the benefit of the poor, he said the Government has increased the monthly pension to Rs. 1000, hiked the minimum wages for contract labourers to Rs. 10,000 from Rs. 6000, provided more loans for setting up start ups and five crore gas connections.
“While the earlier Congress government was giving loans to people like Vijay Mallya, the NDA government has given loan worth Rs. 1.30 lakh crore to three crore youth, that will be increased to Rs. 1.80 lakh crore to four crore youth,” Javadekar said.
On Tamil Nadu election results, Javadekar, who was in charge of the State, said the people did not want any freebies but only jobs to lead a life with self respect and dignity.
The party’s general secretary, P. Muralidhar Rao, said no other government at the Centre had taken so many steps for the welfare of the people. “The present government has initiated so many welfare schemes and it has to be highlighted among the people,” he added.
