Padaashala Award Ceremony organized by Rotract Clubs

There are two dozen city-based Rotract Clubs that are functional in Coimbatore. Members of these clubs are involved in various fund raising events and social service activities. The individual effort of deserving members (or the general public) and the collective efforts of the outstanding Rotract Clubs, are recognized at the Padaashala Awards that are given away every year. This year, Padaashala Award ceremony was organized at Kathir College of Engineering and about 20 clubs participated.

The award ceremony was broken into two parts. During the first half, U.Subbulakshmi from NGO Helping Hearts was awarded the Exemplary Humanity Service Award. In June 2013, as a single parent U.Subbulakshmi came to Coimbatore with her two young sons and she got in touch with NGO Helping Hearts. Ever since then, she has been associated with this NGO taking care of the various homes under this NGO. She currently is responsible for the administrative and operational activities of the homes of this NGO.

“She has no fixed work timings. There were times when she stayed back nursing a sick child or an ill inmate. She truly deserves this award for the tireless service that she has rendered for the last three years. “M.Ganesh, Founder, Helping Hearts said.

During the second half of the Padaashala Award ceremony, Rotract clubs were recognized. Rotract Club of Sai Baba Colony was awarded the Outstanding Community Club. Best college club award was given to Rotaract Club of PSGR Krishnammal College for Women. For their contributions towards the swachh bharat mission, Rotract Club of Hindustan College of Arts and Science bagged an award. There were about a dozen special awards given away during the second half of the award ceremony.

Coimbatore has about 24 Rotract Clubs that are operational. Those who are between 18 to 30 years of age are eligible to become members in any of the Rotract Clubs. There are a few Rotract clubs that are the initiative of a particular college students. Such Rotract clubs are named after the college itself. A few Rotract clubs are community based clubs. Regardless of the nature of the clubs, members of each of the Rotract clubs join hands and organize various events and community based projects.
