Police arrested a painter on Wednesday for killing his colleague following an argument.

According to police, the two – Giriraj (33) and Sakthivel (30) – were painting the house of one Manimaran at Vasuki Street in Thondamuthur. After lunch, the duo consumed alcohol along with Manimaran.

An argument broke between Manimaran and Sakthivel over payment of wages. The two, police said, were talking in Kannada. Giriraj, who did not understand Kannada, thought Sakthivel was going to pay him less and picked up a quarrel with Sakthivel.

In a fit of rage, Sakthivel attacked Giriraj with a crow bar on his head. Giriraj was rushed to the Government Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

Police registered a case under Section 302 of IPC and arrested Sakthivel.
