Kottayam: The medical committee probing the death of casual labourer Murugan of Nagercoil has found serious lapses on the part of the Government Medical College, Thiruvanthapuram.

The committee headed by the Director of Health Services (DHS) said the doctor had a fight with the ambulance personnel instead of attending to the critically injured patient.

Minimum steps needed to save a life were not taken by the hospital authorities.

The government has convened a meeting of all medical colleges in the state to discuss the matter and prevent recurrence of such incidents in the future.

DHS L Saritha, Joint Director of Medical Education Sreekumari and senior consultant of the department of anaesthesia Thiruvananthapuram General Hospital Vipin G I conducted the probe.

Another probe by the Deputy Superintendent of the Medical college had claimed that there was no lapse in treating Murugan who had sustained road injury while travelling in a two wheeler near Kollam.
