A 63-year-old man stood on one leg with folded hands above his head to protest against the decision of the Corporation to relocate a temple to pave way for construction of flyover.

Durai Balan, wearing saffron dress, stood in ‘penance’ from 7 a.m. at a Vinayaka Temple in Gandhipuram, which is to be relocated.

Claiming that Arjuna in Mahabarata had taken this penance posture to get a particular arrow, Balan said that this act was to bring the attention of “the powers that are against the demolition and relocation of this famous temple”.

He ended his protest at 12 noon, standing for five hours on one leg, chanting slokas.

Balan said that he will continue his protest till his voice is heard and the administration dropped the plan for relocation.
