The city will be brought under tight security cover on February 2 as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the ESIC (Employees’ State Insurance Corporation) Medical College here.

During his five-hour visit, Modi will inaugurate the college, built at a cost of Rs.850 crore in Varadarajapuram. Preliminary security checks have been conducted in and around the venue and strict vigil is being kept across the city, police said.

Party Tamil Nadu Secretary, G.K. Selvakumar said, that he, along with party local leaders, had already submitted a petition to the City Corporation and Police Commissioner’s office, seeking permission to hold a public meeting at VOC Park Ground in the heart of the city.

However, a top police official had suggested the meeting be held at CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex considering the security, Selvakumar said.
