A top police official, who was alleged to have misbehaved with a woman sub-inspector while controlling protesters, has been found ‘not guilty’.

A video showing an Assistant Commissioner assaulting a SI went viral on social media on Tuesday. The incident happened when the officers were trying to control students who were on an anti-NEET protest near Gandhipuram Bust Stand.

The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) submitted a petition to the Police Commissioner, Dr. A. Amalraj, demanding stern action against the official.

However, when Covai Post contacted Deputy Commissioner S. Lakshmi, who conducted the enquiry, said no allegations have been levelled against the official. “He has not been found guilty. The person who was said to have been assaulted has not lodged any complaint. Police personnel happen to work in crowded places most of the time. We have to analyse the circumstances and intentions. It has been found that the intention was not to groped her. Even though there are no allegations against him, the official has been put on waiting list because of media reports. The enquiry report is yet to be submitted to the senior officials,” she said.
