Ooty: Police manning the check-posts bordering Kerala and Karnataka were put on high alert, following information that four Maoists, including a woman, had infiltrated into Tamil Nadu, early today.

Police started thoroughly checking all the vehicles, including buses and cars, coming from the Kerala and Karnataka sides, following reports of infiltration of extremists inside jungles.

Checking and surveillance were also intensified in town areas like ATC, Charing Cross, and Ellanahalli, with vehicles having Karnataka and Kerala registrations undergoing special checks, police said.

Rumours were afloat in Coimbatore that a few Maoists, who were under police surveillance, had moved to the Nilgiris district early today. However, senior police officers and district officials have rejected these rumours.
