Two men, posing as police personnel, relieved a 69-year-old woman of her jewellery, weighing nine sovereigns, at Parsn campus in Nanjundapuram Road on Thursday.

According to police, Amsavalli was on her morning walk when two men approached her and introduced themselves as cops. Asking her not to wear jewellery while moving around alone on the roads, the duo asked Amsavalli to handover her chain to them, so that they could pack it and give it to her.

Believing their words, Amsavalli handed over her chains and two bangles to them. The two, in return, handed over a small paper parcel.

After returning home, when Amsavalli opened the pack, she was shocked to find the parcel empty.

Following a complaint from her, D1 Ramanathapuram police have registered a case under Section 420 of IPC and are investigating.
