Premature Babies’ Day celebrated

City-based Ramakrishna Hospital today celebrated World Premature Babies’ Day.

Presiding over the function, Dr. P. Sukumaran, Hospital Dean, said the neo-natal intensive care unit of the hospital that was launched 25 years ago could handle 40 children at a time.

Dr. Siddhartha Butthavarappu, NICU chief said, “Thanks to advancement of medical science, we can even save babies born within 24-25 weeks.”

Parents from Madurai, Tiruchi and Erode participated in the event and shared their experience.

The event was organised to discuss various issues relating to premature babies, according to a press release from the hospital.
