Prime accused, ex-defence official guilty in Varapuzha sex scandal case

Kochi: A trial court on Monday convicted prime accused Shobha John and Col (retd) Jayrajan Nair in the Varapuzha sex racket case involving a minor.
Six others accused in the case, including the victim’s sister and her husband, were absolved for lack of evidence. One of the accused died during the course of the trial.
The quantum of punishment sentence will be delivered later in the day.
There are 32 cases registered in the matter and Shobha is the main accused in most of them. Trial is on in five of them.
The victim was taken to different places in Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu in 2011 and was sexually abused by several persons.
