Chennai: Arrested film producer S Madhan was today remanded in police custody for a week till November 29.

The Vendhar Movies proprietor, who went missing since May 28 and was arrested in Tiruppur two days back for cheating medical aspirants to the tune of Rs 84.59 crore, was produced before the Saidapet Magistate Court today by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police.

The CCB petition sought 10 days police custody for interrogation; the magistrate granted seven and directed the CCB police to produce him before the court by November 29. Madhan was taken by the CCB for interrogation.

Meanwhile, initial inquiries revealed that Madhan was a womaniser, and that two of his associates Geetanjali and Varsha reportedly ‘supplied’ him girls. Also, more details have emerged about Varsha, from whose house in Tiruppur, Madhan was arrested on Monday.

Sources said that Varsha worked as a fashion designer in the cinema industry a few years back. After she separated from her husband, she opened a boutique in Tiruppur. It was then that Madhan began getting close with Varsha, who was also said to be a relative of his second wife.

After he came to Tiruppur, the duo stayed in a bungalow. Neighbours were totally unaware of the presence of a man residing with Varsha, sources said. Reportedly, the spacious house has four bedrooms, and one had a ‘secret passage’, where Madhan was hiding.

After the police caught him, Varsha told the police that Madhan had assured her that he would soon surrender to the police, and that she was not related to any of his fraudulent activities.
