Protest against Corporation: 600 held

At least 600 workers of various political parties were arrested on Monday for attempting to stage picketing in front of the Corporation protesting against the new taxes.

Led by DMK MLA N. Karthik, they raised slogans against the Corporation which they said was run by the Special Officer in the absence of an elected body.

They sought immediate withdrawal of taxes like additional deposit for water connection of Rs.4,000 and above, fee for garbage collection with a minimum of Rs. 20 from the public.

Besides DMK, workers from Congress, CPI-M, VCK and CPI participated in the agitation.
