With the Supreme Court shooting down a plea to deliver its verdict on Jallikattu in Tamil Nadu before the Pongal festival, several organisations took to streets in protest against the ban.

The DMK organised an agitation in Chennai which was presided over by the party’s Working President M.K. Stalin.

Speaking on the occasion, Stalin blamed the Centre and the State Government for not taking appropriate and timely steps to ensure conduct of the event. With the Supreme Court refusing to intervene, the 2014 ban on the traditional Tamil sport remains.

The DMK cadres organised protests in all district headquarters and other major towns. They raised slogans against the Central and the State governments. They urged the Union Government to pass an ordinance immediately to ensure the conduct of Jallikattu this year.

In Madurai, students continued to protest for fourth day.

A human chain protest was organised near the Marina Beach here in which thousands of youngsters participated.

Agitations were also held in Vellore, Tiruvannamalai and Krishnagiri.
