Pvt. insurance firm directed to pay Rs. 17.77 lakh compensation

The Motor Accident Case Claims Tribunal here ordered a private insurance company to pay a compensation of Rs. 17.77 lakh to the father of a computer engineer who died in a road accident in 2014.

According to prosecution, 38-year-old Ramanujam, resident of New Housing Unit, Thanjavur and working as computer engineer in a private company was returning home in his motorbike from Vallam on February 9, 2014 when it collided with a car coming from the opposite direction. Ramanujam died on the spot.

The Thanjavur traffic police registered a case and conducted investigation.

Meanwhile, Ramanujam’s father Netaji filed a petition before the Motor Accident Case Claims Tribunal in Thanjavur praying direction to the insurance company to pay compensation subsequent to the death of his son.

Principal Sub-Judge Poorna Jaya Anand, delivering his verdict on Thursday, ordered the insurance company to pay a compensation of Rs 17,77,696 to Netaji.
