It is called ‘Queen of Hills’. But has a large number of members. Their only agenda – to make Nilgiris district a better place to live in.

The Whats app group, that has about 67 participants including top officials, representatives and who’s who of the district, shares messages that requires immediate attention and finds quick solutions to problems.

Giving details about the group to Covai Post, C. Kishore, who was instrumental in forming the group, said the idea of forming the group was to bring together under one platform a few like-minded people working for a common cause.

“Motivated by the success of Namma Kovai group, I thought why not start one for Ooty too,” he said.

It has been less than a year since ‘Queen of Hills’ came into being and the report card has been so far so good.

One of the members of this group recently posted that a four wheeler in Udhagamandalam was repeatedly violating traffic and road rules. Murali Rambha, Superintendent of Police, Udhagamandalam, who is also a part of the group was quick to respond. Police took swift action against the car owner, thanks to the proof in the form of photographs and other details about the car.

Talking to this correspondent, Murali Rambha said most of the post are about traffic violations, eve teasing and illegal sale of liquor.

“Whats app has certainly made life easy for us to work and take action without wasting time. Within our division, we have formed various groups to pass on important messages,” he added.

On a daily basis his department receives requests for help in finding a solution to a problem the public are facing.
