According to reports from Puducherry Congress, Rahul Gandhi, Congress Vice-President, received a death threat on Monday.

After the death threat, a delegation of top Congress leaders met Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister in Delhi on Monday and urged him to improve Rahul’s security. Rajnath assured prompt action and security enhancement.

V. Narayanasamy, AICC General Secretary and former Union Minister, told from Karaikal over phone that he received an unsigned letter at his Puducherry residence on 5th May, threatening him and Rahul Gandhi.

He said, the letter written in Tamil states “your party is responsible for closure of industries in Puducherry. We will attack you and former Prime Minister’s son while attending the meeting.”

Narayanasamy said he had filed a complaint with the police and had also informed the party high command.

Rahul Gandhi, along with other members of his family is protected by the elite Special Protection Group. Only Prime Ministers and former Prime Minister of India and members of their immediate families are protected by the SPG, apart from the Gandhi family.

The law was amended to include the Gandhi family under SPG cover after the assassination of Rahul’s father and former PM Rajiv Gandhi during an election campaign in Tamil Nadu in 1991.
