Close on the heels of city police rewarding an auto rickshaw driver for returning 60 sovereigns of gold ornaments to the loser, Railway Police today honoured and rewarded four drivers for assisting them nab a thief who attempted to flee after lifting the bag of a woman passenger a month ago.

The incident happened on July 9, when a youth robbed valuables of Saroja, a Chennai-bound passenger from Thiruvananthapuram, and took to his heels at the city station.

As police constable Senthilkumar was chasing the robber, four auto drivers joined him and managed to nab the thief and hand him over to the railway police.

Railway Police DSP Kumaresan felicitated Jinna, Nawaz, Selvam and Manoharan today and handed over a purse of Rs 500 each and a certificate.

Senthilkumar was also given cash award and certificate.

Gold ornaments of 12 sovereigns, and pan card, ATM card and Aadhar card that the thief Ajith from Madurai took were handed over to Saroja on that day itself.
