Railway officials fine 94 perpetrators for ticketless travel

In a one-day special ticket checking drive, officials from the Commercial Branch of the Salem Division of Southern Railways fined 94 perpetrators on Tuesday here.

In the checking that continued from noon till late night, the officials collected a total fine or Rs. 35,700 from perpetrators at Erode and Karur junctions.

“Checking was also done in Train No. 16331 Mumbai Nagercoil Express, Train No. 16860 Mangalore Chennai Egmore Express, Train No. 56108 Karur Salem Passenger and other trains,” said an official.

While 92 incidents including ticketless and improper ticketing (such as travelling beyond the ticket route, travelling in a different class and travelling without proper concession authority) were booked, two cases of un-booked luggage were also detected.

A total of seven ticket checking staff and a Railway Police Force official were involved in the checking.
