Thalaivar, Rajinikanth, on Saturday cowed down and cancelled his proposed tip to Sri Lanka to attend a welfare programme and charity work there after pro Tamil organisations blasted him for visiting a nation that was responsible for genocide against innocent Tamils.

In a statement issued here today, the super star said “I will not be participating in the event, though I disagree with the reasons given by Vaiko and Thirumavalanan.” These two leaders were leading the pack of pro-Tamil organizations that showed their anger against the superstar for his visit to Sri Lanka.

The super star said he wanted to visit Lanka for charity work that would benefit Tamils there and interact with Tamil people of Sri Lanka. The event in Jaffna on April 9 would have had Rajinikanth giving keys to `150 houses built by Lyca Group’s Gnanam Foundation to Tamils there.

VCK leader Thol Thirumavalanan said that he was a friend of Rajinikanth but still he did not want him to visit Lanka and be a part of Lyca, which has strong business ties with Lankan government. This will anger the Tamil people, the VCK leader said.

In the future, however, Rajinikanth may visit Lanka, if he got a chance. “I am not a politician and am an actor. Do not politicize my visits,” he appealed to the pro-Tamil groups.
