Research centre for textiles industry to start functioning in 3 months

The South India Textile Research Association (SITRA) is setting up an incubation centre in Coimbatore, exclusively for textiles. According to a top SITRA official, the centre will become operational in another three months.

The Rs.2 crore centre, built with the financial support from the Union Government, can accommodate two large companies and other outside units, SITRA Director, Prakash Vasudevan told reporters.

SITRA will celebrate its diamond jubilee on January 22. The celebrations will be inaugurated by the Union Textile Minister, Santosh Kumar Gangwar. About the past accomplishments of SITRA, Dr. Prakash Vasudevan said that the centre will become self supportive in three to five years. SITRA’s Centre of Excellence-Meditech is working towards improving and strengthening its capabilities in the growing meditech segment, he said.
