Some of the residents of Varadharajapuram staged a demonstration today seeking immediate closure of the Government-run liquor outlet opposite Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) hospital.
The residents said that the TASMAC outlet, which was right in front of the hospital, was closed yesterday and the board was removed too, because the Prime Minister was inaugurating the new ESIC Medical College and Hospital. As soon as Narendra Modi left, the outlet was back in business by evening.
The residents have given an ultimatum of February 8 to close the shop, failing which they have threatened to step up their agitations.
The crowd dispersed only after the district and police officials assured them that action will be taken.
