Retired deputy collector hacked to death

An 87-year-old retired deputy collector was hacked to death by his relative in his house in Pollachi today.

Mayilsamy was staying alone in the house in Mahalingapuram. A relative, who was living with him, had reportedly quarrelled with him early in the morning today. Angered by the argument, the relative took a machete and attacked Mayilsamy, who died on the spot.

The relative managed to escape soon after.

The police arrived following the information given by the neighbours. They recovered he body and sent it for postmortem. Further investigations are on.
