Kumbakonam: The Railways will soon set up a museum at Kumbakonam in memory of Swami Vivekananda’s visit to the temple town, said Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu.
Lunching various facilities to passengers at Kumbakonam Railway Station on Sunday, the Minister described Kumbakonam as a sacred town and said that Swami Vivekananda visited the town after his famous visit to Chicago where gave the clarion call, “Arise, awake and stop not till the goal is reached”.
Suresh Prabhu urged local the Members of Parliament, who were present today, to contribute liberally for the museum project from their Local Area Development Fund.
On BJP’s victory in the recent elections in five States, he said the party has won the hearts of people of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. “This was reflected in the massive victory in the Assembly elections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP believed in serving the people and winning their hearts. The Prime Minister does not call himself as Pradhan Mantri but calls himself Pradhan Servant. We will serve the people,” he added.
Earlier, the Minister dedicated the emergency medical centre at the Kumbakonam ‘A’ Grade Railway Station and opened through video conferencing the upper class waiting hall and general class waiting hall at Thanjavur Railway Junction and two passenger lifts at platform number six and in circulating area at Madurai Railway Junction.
State Agriculture Minister R. Duraikannu, Members of Parliament R. Vaithilingam and Bharathi Mohan, Kumbakonam MLA K. Anbazhagan in their speech urged the Union Minister to fulfill their various demands which included doubling and electrification of Thanjai-Kumbakonam-Mayiladuthurai and Villupuram lines, completion of broad gauge conversion on Thiruthuraipoondi, Peravurani, Karaikudi, Rameswaram stretch, laying the Kumbakonam-Vriddhachalam line and re-starting the defunct Mayiladuthurai-Tharangampadi line.
Vashishta Jori, General Manager, Southern Railways welcomed the gathering. Collector A Annadurai and several other officials participated.
