Road and rail traffic was disrupted for nearly an hour today, when a sand-laden lorry got stuck on the railway track, while trying to cross a level crossing at NGGO Colony in the city.

The axle of the lorry snapped when the vehicle tried to cross the level crossing around 8 a.m. The driver’s efforts to move the vehicle proved futile, police said.

Vehicular traffic was disrupted and some vehicles were diverted via approach roads, as the incident happened some eight km from the city.

A passenger train from Mettupalayam to the city was stopped at Karamadai for nearly one hour, waiting for clearance, they said.

The lorry was removed after unloading the sand and traffic was restored after one-and-a-half hours, police said.
