Rs 18 lakh compensation to accident victim’s next of kin

Thanjavur: The First Additional District Sessions Court here ordered the Thanjavur branch of the National Insurance Company to pay a compensation of Rs 18 lakh to the next of kin of a mini-lorry cleaner who died in a mishap in March this year.

Nithyanandam (21), a resident of Sethi Veeradivari village near Poyyundarkottai in Orathanadu taluk and working as cleaner in a mini-lorry, died on the spot on March 17 this year after he was run over by another mini-lorry at Kunnathur.

Thingalur police registered a case and conducted an enquiry.

Meanwhile, Nithyanandam’s father Azhagar filed a petition before the First Additional District Sessions Court in the city praying direction to the National Insurance Company to pay adequate compensation. Judge N Balasubramanian who pronounced his verdict in the case today ordered the Thanjavur branch of the National Insurance Company to pay Rs 18 lakh as compensation to the next kin of the deceased.
