Officers of the Election Commission today seized Rs.6.16 lakhs from a yarn merchant near Palladam, Tirupur district.

During routine checks to prevent the inflow of unaccounted for money, the officials stopped a car near Pallipalayam, and found the amount with the merchant. Official sources said that he had failed to provide supporting documents for the money.

The recovered money has been deposited with the treasury, and will be returned if valid documents are produced by the merchant.
