Rs. 60 lakh of seized money restored to owners

Ooty: Of the total Rs. 84.06 lakh seized during vehicle check in view of the Assembly polls, Rs. 60 lakh has been restored to the owners, after production of valid documents for the transportation of money, Nilgiris District Collector P. Shankar said today.

The elections officials had seized Rs. 84.06 lakh till Wednesday in areas coming under three Assembly constituencies, and kept it in safe custody. Rs. 60 lakh was returned to the owners after they produced the relevant documents, Mr. Shankar told reporters here.

The Election Department has so far registered 16 cases with regard to violation of election code of conduct, he said.

The services of nurses in various Government hospitals would be utilised to create awareness on 100 per cent voting. This would be carried out by going door-to-door, he said.

Similarly, awareness will be created among the student community to ensure 100 per cent voting, Mr. Shankar said.
