Rs.75 crore sanctioned as first phase as compensation for Air port expansion

Coimbatore : Tamil Nadu Government has sanctioned Rs.75 crore to be distributed as compensation to those, whose lands have been acquired for the City Airport expansion, State Municipal Administration Minister, S P Velumani said on Sunday.

An amount of Rs.1,500 crore is involved in acquiring about 650 acres of land for the expansion, which was pending for the last few years, Velumani said, while addressing the roadshow of Global Investment Meet scheduled on January 23 and 24 in Chennai next year.

In the first phase government has released Rs.75 crore, which will be distributed to them in another 10 days, he said.

He said that he has taken up the issue of extending the Mumbai-Bengaluru Industrial corridor till Coimbatore with Defence Minister, Nirmala Seetharaman, which will act as a force multiplier.

Similarly, he also urged the Centre to include Coimbatore among the 10 World Class Cities, being developed by the Government.
