Sanitary workers stage sit-in protest

Contract workers of the Coimbatore Corporation Sanitation Department today staged a sit in protest inside Corporation premises for various demands here on Thursday.

According to one of the workers, more than 1500 sanitary workers were working with the Coimbatore Corporation on contract basis.

The workers have been for long protesting for increase in salaries ; filling up of vacancies; weekly leave, pay slip, safety measures and uniforms.

However, they claimed that the corporation had failed to heed to their pleas over the years.

More than 100 workers participated in the protest.
