The aged and children are the focus and Sarguru Trust continues to support the needs of these people who cannot afford to otherwise. Founded by V.S. Sudhakar and launched in the year 2008 by the then Mayor, Venkatachalam, this trust is funded by its founder and by the donations from good Samaritans.
Sarguru Trust has adopted Anbalaya Home in Vadavalli, Eliya Old Age Home and Shoraam Old Age Home in Thadagam. Essentials like rice, oil, clothes, general medicines, wheelchairs, cot, and mattresses are provided by the trust, month after month. Sarguru Trust also organizes medical camps for the inmates of these homes on a regular basis. Members and volunteers of this trust celebrate festivals and special occasions with the inmates of these homes.
“My father was a Rotarian and I grew up observing my parents give as much as they could. This motivated me to become a part of the Rotaract club in my college. After completing college, I become a member of the Rotary. I’m trying to give back as much as I possibly can to the society. That was why I started the Sarguru Trust,” Sudhakar says.
The founder of this trust feels that children and the aged are the ones who need love, care, and support the most. A majority of the activities of this trust are directed towards them. The trust has been helping by providing assistance to the destitute, physically-challenged and old age people, various joint programmes with government for protecting the environment, assisting for compulsory marriage registration, and providing financial assistance to boys and girls schools studying in government schools and providing medical assistance.
In the past, the trust has organized various training programmes for school dropouts, like the data entry and ITI programmes for school dropouts of Class VIII to XII. This trust has enhanced the livelihoods of several women by providing free-of-cost training in tailoring, cookery, painting, embroidery, and basic of beauty training programme. Sarguru Trust also provides medical grants and assistance, training in yoga and personal health care, and also awareness classes on environmental conservation, and personalized counselling and rehabilitation of the elderly.
