Defence Minister Mohan Parrikar today said the search operations to locate the remains of the AN-32 aircraft would continue.

Talking to reporters at Rameswaram, the Minister said some objects were found in the Bay of Bengal and search teams have been asked to verify if they belonged to the ill-fated plane. Reports said that two orange coloured objects were found in the sea last evening and it was suspected that it could belong t the aircraft.

“We cannot confirm whether the objects are from the plane. We are not leaving any chances,” Parrikar added.

However, official sources said since it was a cargo carrier, the search teams cannot miss out on anything. “Even if we are able to locate a luggage it will be a big breakthrough in the operation. We have to look out for anything in the ocean bed,” sources added.

A state of art ice-class research vessel Sagar Nidhi of the National Institute of Ocean Technology has been called from Mauritius to join the search operations.

The assistance of Geological Survey of India has also been sought. The services of Samudra Ratnakar, that has been deployed for oceanographic research, has also been asked for.

INS Nirupak, which has an underwater vehicle and camera on it, is scheduled to be deployed today along with 16 other ships that are already involved in the search operations.
