Seeking divine intervention for elephant welfare

Even if it could be the divine intervention that could save the wild elephants that are dying in Coimbatore, Coimbatoreans are ready to seek it just for the sake of the gentle giants, who have been an integral part of Coimbatore for thousands of years.

One such incident happened in the city on Friday as a Coimbatore based Vikash Munot, who is running two-wheeler spare parts store in Coimbatore arranged for a special Ganapathy Pooja for the welfare of elephants at the Mankadu Devi Sri Karumari Amman temple.

Hailing from Rajasthan, Vikash had developed love for elephants and his favourite God Ganapathy. This is one of the main reasons why he was not able to bear the continuous deaths of elephants in Coimbatore.

“In the last 15 days alone, more than six elephants have died in Coimbatore alone. This is a tragedy and an example that our elephants are dying. Unless we work now, we cannot save elephants,” said Vikash, who has been in Coimbatore for more than 10 years.

He claimed that now that the Pooja is conducted, elephants would be safe adding that lord Ganesh would help save them.

22-year-old Vikash had previously conducted Poojas during Chennai floods and during this summer for rain.
