Taking advantage of the selfie craze that is rampant everywhere, Alwar-based NGO, Samarthya Foundation, has launched its #SelfieWithPlant online contest. Participants are required to plant a sapling, take a selfie with it, and share the picture on the NGOs Facebook page. Samarthya Foundation has announced a gift hamper for the 100 best selfies.

The NGO’s Facebook page says that #SelfieWithPlant is an initiative by the Samarthya Foundation, aimed at encouraging people to plant a sapling and click a selfie with it. The plant can be named after a loved one or an admired personality. The foundation is hoping that the individual who had planted the sapling will take the responsibility of caring for the plant too.

Through social media, Samarthya Foundation aims at spreading this initiative and involving more people. The drive was initiated more than a month ago, and already has many takers. The official website of this NGO has pictures that have been sent in by people.

When we contacted the NGO, no one was available for a comment. Selfies with the saplings can be sent via email to [email protected], along with information like name, address, and occupation.

Samarthya Foundation, the brainchild of Vikas, was launched last year. The certified NGO believes in enabling self-reliance and is committed to working on issues affecting the urban and rural poor, with a special focus on underprivileged children. The foundation, on a regular basis, hosts medical camps for the poor in rural areas. Cancer patients are also supported with the funds from the foundation.
