Sisters allege custodial death of brother in Tirupur

In an alleged custodial death, a 20-year old died of neck fracture in the government hospital after being brought from a police station in nearby Tirupur in the early hours of today.

According to police, the youth Dineshkumar, a native of Kumbakonam and working in Tirupur was taken to the police station two days ago in connection with a bicycle theft case.

Dinesh suddenly fell ill and was admitted to a private hospital here last’ night, allegedly having neck problem, police said.

However, he was shifted to government hospital some time later, where he was declared dead around 2 am today. Dinesh’s two sisters, however, alleged that custodial torture resulted in their brother falling ill. They also alleged that the private hospital has sought Rs.10 lakh for treatment even as he was immediately shifted to government hospital.

The sisters sought a detailed inquiry into the incident and is waiting for postmortem report, police said.
