Six arrested in ATM phishing case

COIMBATORE: Six persons were arrested on charges withdrawing Rs. 19 lakh from an ATM of a private bank by using duplicate cards in the city.

According to police, the accused used to make duplicate ATM cards after stealing the data using skimmers and camera and drawn the money from different accounts to the tune of Rs.19 lakh.

On information, a special team that was formed to nab the miscreants, went to Krishnagiri and took them into custody.

Police recovered, two cars (BMW and Innova) 17 cellphones, two laptops, 20 duplicate ATM cards and 40 grams of gold ornaments from them.

The accused – Wasim and Tamilarasan from Krishnagiri, Niranjan and Santhan, a Sri Lankan refugee from Chennai, Krishnan from Trichy and Manoharan from Tirupur – were produced before a court and remanded to custody, they said.

The accused have similar cases in various parts of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry.
