Smart city initiative to be people’s initiative

The Coimbatore City Corporation Mayor, P Rajkumar, today assured that the Smart City initiative would totally be a people’s initiative.

Addressing a meeting attended by officials in connection with the Prime Minister’s Smart Cities Project, he said the project would be launched in the City on June 25 in all the 20 cities that have been selected for this throughout the country.

Various activities have been planned in such a way that each and every person in the City would be part of the project. Parks, roads and important junctions would be developed. Narasimpathy, Krishanampathy, Selvampathy, Kumaraswamy, Selva Chinthamani, Periyakulam, Valamkulam and Singanallur tanks have been identified and wold be developed.

“If you have any proposal to make our city a better place to live in, share with us. If feasible, we will implement,” Rajkumar appealed to people.

The Commissioner would meet representatives from various sections of the society on June 20 and take their feedback. He would also meet students, children, youth, women and professionals in this regard.

From June 20 to June 24, the Corporation would host ‘Coffee with Corporation’ at 5.30 p.m. during which time public can air their ideas through power point presentation.

Starting tomorrow, there would be talk shows, no dumping Coimbatore – waste management forum, technology hackathon and other activities have been planned in order to make the citizens aware of the initiative. All the Smart City Project would be updated on the CCMC website.

Heads of various NGOs, social service organisations and representatives from the media attended the meeting.
