Relatives of a nonagenarian staged a sit in protest in front of a private hospital, where he is undergoing treatment, urging the Government to pay the medical bill as promised earlier.

Marappa Gounder (94) was injured in the recent bus stand collapse in Somanur and admitted to the hospital. The Ministers and officials who visited the accident site and hospital promised to take care of medical expenses and paid Rs. 50,000 initial payment, they said.

Stating that they had so far paid Rs.1.25 lakh towards treatment, the relatives said that the hospital was demanding Rs. 2 lakh to discharge the patient.

The hospital has given a bill for Rs. 3.9 lakh, after giving a discount of Rs.70,000 and wanted the relatives to pay another Rs. 2 lakh for Marappa Gounder’s discharge, police said and added that his relatives were waiting for Government assistance.
