The Election Commission has decided to launch a special drive for purification of the Electoral Rolls by removing repeat/multiple entries, repeat EPlC numbers and entries of dead voters from February 15 to 29.

A de-duplication software developed by the Commission segregates the repeat, multiple entries, repeat EPIC numbers from the roll and after observing necessary formalities as per rules laid down these entries would be deleted from the rolls.

Through this exercise, voters in 10 constituencies of the district are asked to come forward and disclose any repeat / multiple entries and repeat EPIC numbers in the roll to their respective officers via e-mail, post or in person, a release said today.

The information may also be furnished to the District Election Officer and District Collector, post or e-mail ([email protected] ) or to Complaint Cell functioning at Collector’s Office, Coimbatore, on land line number (0422) 2303786.

The voters have also been asked to motivate their relatives and neighbours to inform the repeat / multiple entries, repeat EPIC numbers, besides informing the names of dead persons, if any, found in the Electoral Rolls and to create awareness among them to apply for deletion of such entries in the Electoral Rolls.

The information furnished by the recognized political parties in this regard will also be considered. The list identified by the de-duplication software and that voluntarily furnished by
voters and recognised political parties would be verified at field level from February 15.

The draft deletion list of persons to be deleted would be communicated to the recognised political parties for objections, if any, and the draft list will be displayed in the notice boards of the Electoral Registration Officers / Assistant Electoral Registration Officers concerned and also in the website of the Office of District Election Officer and Chief Electoral Officer.

A meeting to hear the views of all recognised political parties in connection with the special drive will be convened by District Election Officer and District Collector, at 5.30 p.m. on February 15 at Collector’s Office, here.
