The Salem Division of the Southern Railways on Tuesday inaugurated an All Women Facilitation Centre at Coimbatore Railway Junction here.
According to a senior official, the centre would offer travel related assistance for women passengers. It would be manned by women staff round the clock.
“Staff from the Commercial and the Railway Protection Force department will be stationed at the centres. The counter will provide assistance to women passengers. It will also help them in lodging complaints with the Railway police,” the official said. “Access to prepaid autos will also be provided to women passengers,” he added.
In addition, baby feeding centre is also available in the facilitation centre to help nursing mothers.
The centre has been opened to commemorate the completion of nine years of the Salem Railway Division.
“This is one of the seven centres of Southern Railways. More such centres have been planned in other junctions,” the official said.
